How to Remove the WGA Notification in Windows 7

Method 1: Deleting WGALogon.dll and WGATray.exe

   1. Click the Start Button

   2. Select Run

   3. Key in System32 and click on the OK button; this command takes you to the document path C:\WINDOWS\system32, and usually states that the files are hidden, because this folder keeps the system working properly and should not be modified. Make sure to click on Show the contents of this folder to make files viewable

   4. Once the folder is viewable, follow these click paths: Tools, Folder Options, View, and tick to unselect Hide extensions for known file types

   5. Rename WGALogon.dll to WGALogon1.dll

   6. Delete WGATray.exe, open Task Manager, and end its process in the Process tab

   7. Go back to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the application extension of WGALogon.dll, and rename WGALogon1.dll back to WGALogon.dll

   8. Restart your computer as this process will not be complete until computer is restarted



Method 2: Disable execution rights for WGALogon.dll

   1. Turn off Simple File Sharing by following the click paths: Tools, Folder Options, View tab

   2. Right click WgaLogon.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32 to open the Security Tab

   3. Select Advanced button

   4. Un-tick Inherit box

   5. Select Copy and the press OK

   6. Remove Read & Execute permission for WgaLogon.dll

   7. Click OK to apply changes

   8. Restart the computer


Method 3: Do a System Restore

If you just want to remove the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification, you can use System Restore to revert your Windows system back to the time before you installed the program. Here are the steps on how to do a system restore:

   1. Click the Start Button

   2. Select Program

   3. Select Accessories

   4. Go to System Tools and choose System Restore

   5. Choose a restore point before the installation of Windows Genuine Advantage Notification and follow the steps shown on the System Restore wizard
